elcome to Allegory Falls, not your typical small town. This book,
written and illustrated by Gary Bigelow, leads us into the twilight zone
of characters who exist just outside reality. His stories are in turn gritty,
funny, and jtouching. These tales with their mysterious twists and odd characters
are generously illustrated with linocuts by the author. An an award-winning
artist, Bigelow has constructed a mythical place called Allegory Falls,
where the bizarre is an expected daily occurance.
igelow works to create a different reality while acknowledging that
people and places affect his art and writing. He sees his often surreal
work as an extension of the world in which we live. His works capture our
tenuous human condition and his linocuts speak like editorial cartoons.
Gary Bigelow is a native Montanan, although he has lived in many
other places. A talented multi-media artist, he has exhibited his work in
the United Staes, Europe, and Latin America. His work has appeared in books,
periodicals, and an anthology of wood engravers. Bigelow holds an M.F.A.
